Tavers (Loire Valley, France)
In the tiny town of Tavers (a stone’s throw from the Loire River on the eastern edge of the Loire Valley) this quaint 19th century renovated farmhouse is the perfect base for a charming country stay. A family-run establishment, La Tonnellerie values service, which can’t help but make you feel at home as you park up for a night or two.
Enjoy dinner on the tree-clad terrace, with locally sourced gastronomic fare available at reasonable prices. Dishes will satisfy, and occasionally wow, but overall are in line with the price point. The cheese plate, however, is a step above and deserves both attention and stomach space.
Rooms are comfortable and quiet, overlooking the town or the interior courtyard, garden and heated swimming pool. Don’t skip the well-priced and decadent breakfast buffet (extra cost), which is available on the terrace in warmer weather.
