Cancale (Emerald Coast, Brittany, France)
In the breathtakingly-picturesque port town of Cancale, on Brittany’s Emerald Coast just east of Saint Malo, is one of our all-time top destination dining locations in France. With hotels and restaurants lining the waterfront, your options are plentiful, however we’ve settled on a favourite: Breizh Café. This all-in-one building adjacent to the jetty offers a creperie (that also has branches in Paris, Saint Malo and Tokyo), a Michelin-star Japanese-French fusion restaurant, and chic guest rooms.
If you’re in the mood for a lighter and more casual meal, head to the authentic Breton crêperie, where you’ll find all the classic flavour combinations (the salted caramel is a particular highlight), plus a range of savoury and sweet specials highlighting local produce (think seafood). Upstairs, at La Table Breizh Café, is a more delicate and precise affair, offering Japanese dishes made with Breton ingredients. The food is nothing short of spectacular.
Above the restaurant are a handful of zen and comfortable guest rooms, with a luxurious bath tub, clean design and views overlooking the port. Enjoy the location for strolling around Cancale town, hitting the oyster market next door, and enjoying Breizh Café’s quality dining options. Included in the room price is an excellent breakfast once again highlighting local products, with crepes, apple juice and local jams being the stars of the show.
